Dr. Barry Sears, who introduced the concept of the zone diet say that the concept was proven effective in reducing the risk of diabetes. The zone diet recommends you to fulfill your dinner plate with 30% protein, 40% carbohydrate, and 30% fat. This simple formula was shown to bring your body to achieve its best performance. If you feel a bit difficult with the percentage distribution of the above, then use the palm of your hand to measure the parts for the type of food on your plate. So the handful of rice will roughly equal to a handful of meat that's available on your plate. While fat is estimated to come from the meat or oil used for cooking.
